Aruba

Located on Aruba's picturesque southern coast, Oranjestad is the historical Dutch capital city where the tall multicolored houses of Wilheminastraat combine carved wooded doors and traditional Dutch tiles with airy open galleries and sloping, Aruban-style roofs. Along the wharf, merchants come to sell fresh fish and produce right off the boats every morning. All of Aruba's government buildings and main offices are located in the capital city,

Oranjestad is also the place to shop or to browse in the marketplace for Aruban art and local handicrafts. Depending on the time of year, you could also find yourself in the middle of Carnival, a summertime festival, the New Year's fireworks, or even a parade in honor of the Queen. At any time of year, Oranjestad is the bustling meeting place of tourists and locals alike.

Curacao

Part of the Dutch Antilles, Curacao is a popular place among those looking for warm water, an excellent nightlife, and a unique cultural experience. Visiting the capital, Willemstad, is much like visiting a small European city with all of the charm--and all of the shopping. The beaches that line the coast have beautiful white sand and are great for snorkeling and scuba diving, particularly at the Curacao Underwater Park, while there are several interesting sites inland including the Hato Caves and the Curacao Seaquarium. If you're planning a trip to the Caribbean, have a look at Curacao.

Fort Lauderdale

Located in the center of South Florida's Gold Coast, midway between Palm Beach and Miami, Greater Fort Lauderdale stretches from Deerfield Beach and Pompano in the north to Hollywood and Hallandale Beach in the south. Sprawling across 1,200 square miles that include 505,600 acres of Everglades on the western edge, the region is home to 30 cities and 1.7 million residents.

Fort Lauderdale, the largest city and the county seat, has 150,000 residents. While all streets have numbers, proper names are given to most of the city's main thoroughfares such as the major east/west corridors that lead to the beaches. These east/west boulevards in Fort Lauderdale are (from north to south), Commercial, Oakland Park, Sunrise, Broward and Las Olas. The only exception is 17th Street Causeway which is the major east/west artery that leads past Port Everglades and turns into A1A (the scenic beach road). All have bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway to the beaches except, strangely, Broward. Florida's only tunnel is located on Federal Highway at Broward Blvd. The major east/west beach corridor roads south of Fort Lauderdale in Hollywood are Stirling Road, Sheridan St., Hollywood Blvd., and Hallandale Beach Blvd. North of Fort Lauderdale, the major crossings to the beach are Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano, and Hillsboro Blvd in Deerfield Beach.
